Cooper’s Hawk Nest at the Arboretum

Cooper's Hawk Nest

The Arboretum staff is thrilled to announce that we have an active Cooper’s Hawk nest on the grounds. Cooper’s Hawks are small, agile raptors that nest in wooded areas throughout North America. However, there are few nesting records of this species on the Texas coast this century. Thankfully the birds appear to be making a comeback, and at least two other nests have been reported in the Houston area this summer. To avoid disturbing the birds we are not disclosing the exact location of the nest. But thanks to local nature photographers, we can share these photographs of the chicks development.
